I was given 20 Avatar Prop codes to use to elicit maps from the community for my project. I had 14 people successfully submit maps (as in, they used the submission form, had a valid gamertag, AND actually had a map in their file share for me to download). So I decided to give everyone that successfully submitted a map an Avatar Prop code! I have already sent them out via Xbox Live text message the corresponding gamertags. I’ll find some way to give away the extra codes later on. I love giving stuff away, so that should be fun.

Thanks to BS Angel, 343 Industries Community Manager, I have 10 Knight Avatar Prop codes and 10 Watcher Avatar Prop codes to give away in coordination with my current (top secret) Forge project. These are codes redeemable on the Xbox 360 for your Xbox Avatar!
How can you get one? Well, all you have to do is Forge FOR Pete! I am looking for specific kinds of Forge maps from the Halo community. This is not a contest–I will not be judging the maps that are sent to me. Instead, I will personally be considering them to potentially be featured in my (top secret) Forge project. I will give out codes at “random” to the authors of maps that impress me. I’m limited on codes, so not every author will get one.
I need these maps by February 20th (so I will wait until February 20th to distribute the codes). What kind of maps am I looking for?
#1. Paintball Maps
These are maps inspired by paintball, and suitable for the 5v5 Team Slayer paintball game type currently in my file share. Here’s the run down on paintball:
- Bottomless clip plasma pistols
- Instant kill
- Unlimited lives
That last bit is important–traditionally, paintball game types only have 1 life. The paintball maps you submit must be designed to support players respawning.
What kind of design am I looking for? Preferrably, something inspired by real paintball arenas!
Here’s a quick demonstration map I created:
You don’t need to create an exact replica of a paintball course–feel free to be creative and play with elevation and design, but don’t make something that feels like a traditional competitive map. I want it to look and feel like a paintball map. I’m hoping to find several good maps on all 3 Forge canvases.
Also, contrary to good minigame design, I do not want the enemy base inaccessible and I do not want the players to spawn inside a soft kill boundary. I want players to be able to reach and kill enemy AFK players. Again, your map must support players respawning with unlimited lives. To combat spawn camping, the game type has 3 seconds of invulnerabiliy on respawn.
#2. Mantis Battle Maps
These are maps that are designed for 5v5 Team Slayer Mantis battles! Here are some things to keep in mind:
- To provide the maximum number of Mantes during the game, use all 8 Mantes, all 8 Scorpions (these will be converted to Mantes via game type settings), and Dominion vehicle pads assigned to the appropriate team.
- Contrary to good minigame design, I do not want the enemy base inaccessible and I do not want the players to spawn inside a soft kill boundary. I want players to be able to reach and kill enemy AFK players. Again, your map must support players respawning with unlimited lives.

You can see the shield wall prevents enemies from shooting into the base from the battlefield. The 1 unit high step prevents Mantes from re-entering the base after they’ve left. However, players on foot can jump up into the base. You don’t need to duplicate this exact design–it’s just to emphasize the kind of set up I prefer. Don’t be afraid to be creative, just keep this stuff in mind.
